Government officials who are either policy makers or officials at the head of the film industry and film industry professionals, will come together in order to communicate with one another. To be discussed, are the current issues arising in the region and how to improve the filming environment in Asia by proposing ideas for the ideal direction the Asian film industry is headed.

Nowadays, many factors influence the production company¡¯s choice of overseas filming locations. Most importantly, generous incentives and distinctive locations fitting the story line are the top priorities that production companies are looking for. At the seminar, Film NZ, with comparative incentives and state of the art post-production facilities, will discuss how they attract the Hollywood big budget films, such as James Cameron¡¯s new film <Avatar>. Also, the Jordan Film Commission will share its experience with one of the biggest box office hits in 2009, <Transformer 2>, which required unique filming locations. In addition, a professional location manager and well-experienced producer will join the seminar to give their opinions on the subject.

 
To present the federal government led support (including funds or incentives), which boost both the domestic and international productions in Asia. To be introduced, additionally, is a region that already provides strong support and attracts international productions.

Since large corporations took a step back from investing in the film industry, the Korean Film Council encouraged the establishment of professional film investment programs with private sectors in order to support the industry. Over the past 9 years, there has been a unique mixture of public and private financing to support the industry.

These days, the competition to lure international production to local locations is not common. Attracting international production is generally expected to develop the local film industry by promoting the region and supporting the local economy. Here, we are introducing the hottest locations in the Asia-Pacific region while enhancing them with incentives from both federal and local governments, distinctive locations and comparative infrastructure including soundstages, post-production facilities etc.

There are ongoing issues in overseas filming, including filming permits, customs clearance & tariffs, tax, insurance, visa remittance and local production services, etc. Due to the increase of overseas filming and international co-production, the importance of understanding different systems and local filming environments should be emphasized, as well as establishing a filming friendly environment. The focus meeting will provide an opportunity for film policy makers, film industry professionals and film commissioners in Asia to face these issues and search for solutions in order to improve and enhance communication and co-development between countries in Asia.
